To join Career Leap, you must be:
- A current resident of Alberta
- 18 years of age or older
- Currently in receipt of EI, EI Reachback (have received EI in the last 5 years) or Eligible for EI
- Currently unemployed or marginally employed
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Ready, willing, and able to participate in full time employment
Employment Placement and Supports
Employment Placement and Supports help job seekers secure employment based on their skills, experience, and qualifications. Our Job Placement Consultants develop relationships with suitable employers with the goal of connecting them with individuals who are ready, willing and able to participate in full time employment.
The objectives of Employment Placement and Supports include:
- Helping job seekers gain employment where they can utilize their existing skills and expertise with minimal training
- Helping employers fill job openings and limit skill shortages
Employment Placement and Supports offer group-based workshops, individualized coaching, and on-going support to help job seekers secure meaningful and sustainable employment.
Direct Job Matching
We won’t just give you the resources and tools you need to conduct your own job search, but instead we will match you directly with employers. The goal is to help you find work as quickly as possible based on your transferrable skills.
Since you might gain employment in an unfamiliar industry sector, we will provide you with on-the-job support to ensure you are successful in your new role!
Unpaid Work Exposure
As you explore a new industry sector, or a different area within the sector, you might require some additional support to help you transition into your new career.
Unpaid Work Exposure provides you with on-the ground experience while also giving employers the chance to assess your skills and see if you are the right fit for the job, team, and organization.
Our experienced Job Placement Consultants will work with you to find an unpaid work experience aligned with your skills, qualifications, as well as employment goals.
Our goal is to help you find work where minimal training is required; however, you may still need some short term training to fill some knowledge or skills gaps.
As a program participant, you have access to financial support* for short-term training courses essential to obtaining a specific job with a targeted employer or industry. Our staff review your current skills and qualifications and identify appropriate courses, which relate to your target occupation.

To remain competitive in the job market, updating your skills is an essential part of your job search and career plan. All registered clients of the Career Leap program have unlimited access to Manpower’s PowerYou, which are online courses in Business & Leadership, Desktop Skills, IT, and Environmental Safety & Health.
The courses can help you prepare for professional certification in project management, quality assurance, information technology and desktop software, or just help you keep your skills current. Developed by industry-leading learning experts to provide effective web-based learning, they are a convenient way to update and increase your skills online.
Retention and Follow-Up Support
Ongoing follow up occurs after you secure employment, 3 and 6 months after the start date. Our staff is available to help you navigate the first few months of employment to ensure you are successful in your new role. You will also have access Manpower’s PowerYou online courses for 6 months in order to continue your online training.
